> Internal tests showed gains of up to 55x on selected execution tasks and up to 11x in end-to-end throughput. Feature completeness is targeted by the end of 2026.

Aptos introduced MonoMove, a proposed redesign of its Move execution engine, with internal tests showing as much as 55x faster execution on selected smart-contract tasks used by trading, lending and payment applications.

Internal replays of Decibel mainnet transactions showed execution gains of up to 55x for perpetual collateral withdrawals, 40x for vault-request processing, 38x for perpetual-market requests and 22x for order placement.

The 55x result applies to selected execution tasks and does not represent a 55x increase in total network throughput. Separate benchmarks covering trading, borrowing and lending, and payment workloads recorded up to 11x higher end-to-end throughput without additional optimization or parallel execution.

MonoMove is a rebuilt Move virtual machine and execution stack. Move is Aptos’ smart-contract programming language, while the virtual machine executes transactions on the network.

The proposed engine is designed to preserve Move’s rules for creating, copying and transferring digital assets while adding redundant runtime checks. Aptos is running identical transactions through its existing engine and MonoMove, then comparing the results. Formal verification of critical components is planned.

“MonoMove is IMHO the biggest leap forward in smart contract development to date,” Avery Ching, co-founder and CEO of Aptos Labs, said.

Feature completeness is targeted by the end of 2026. Mainnet deployment is planned for 2027, subject to an Aptos governance vote. No voting or activation date has been announced.
