> The Oct. 6 testnet upgrade combines Amsterdam and Gloas changes aimed at more efficient validation. Ethereum has not set activation dates for Hoodi or mainnet.

Ethereum activated its Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet Oct. 6, testing protocol changes designed to support larger blocks and more efficient validation without setting a gas limit for mainnet.

The upgrade went live at 9:53:36 a.m. ET (13:53:36 UTC), at epoch 353,024 and slot 11,296,768. Its 200 million-gas figure is a Sepolia target, not a new limit for Ethereum’s mainnet. No mainnet activation date has been set.

Glamsterdam combines the Amsterdam execution-layer upgrade with the Gloas consensus-layer upgrade. Its principal changes are enshrined proposer-builder separation, known as ePBS, and Block-Level Access Lists, or BALs.

The design is intended to make larger blocks easier for validators and nodes to process. ePBS gives validators more time to validate execution payloads by separating the proposer’s commitment from the builder’s later payload reveal. The change separates consensus validation from execution validation logically and temporally.

BALs record the accounts, storage locations and post-transaction state changes touched by a block. Clients can use that information for parallel state reads, transaction validation and state-root computation.

Sepolia’s initial gas setting was 60 million. Prysm 7.2.0 and Teku 26.9.1 defaulted to 60 million gas after activation unless operators explicitly configured a 200 million gas limit. The test therefore does not force every block to use 200 million gas; the setting rises as validators and clients adopt higher configurations.

The upgrade also includes proposals to increase the maximum deployed contract-code size from 24 KiB to 64 KiB and the initcode limit from 48 KiB to 128 KiB. Separate execution-gas and state-gas accounting would also be introduced, alongside a higher cost for state creation.

The Sepolia activation follows Ethereum’s previously announced test schedule for Glamsterdam, including the [Oct. 6 fork plan](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/24612>). The 200 million-gas test applies to the test network and does not determine Ethereum’s eventual mainnet gas limit.

Activation dates for the Hoodi testnet and Ethereum mainnet remain undecided.
