> The planned system would let AI agents pay machines providing inference, but no live payments or paid production use have been confirmed.

Spiral is integrating Bitcoin (BTC) payments into Mesh LLM, a peer-to-peer AI inference network, creating a planned way for agents to pay machines supplying computing capacity.

The proposed system would use the Lightning Network to settle payments between AI agents requesting inference and machines contributing GPU resources. The integration was discussed on an Oct. 3 podcast episode, but the payment feature has not been confirmed as shipped.

Mesh LLM combines computing resources from multiple computers and makes them available through an OpenAI-compatible application programming interface. Its documented capabilities include routing requests among peers, using encrypted connections and splitting large-model execution across nodes.

The project is designed to let users share computing resources either privately or publicly. Public participation is described as dependent on available capacity and performance rather than a guaranteed service level, while private sharing is intended for trusted participants.

Payment-related software has appeared in the project. The mesh-llm-payments-types package reached version 0.78.1 on Oct. 5 and defines data types for pricing, invoice lifetimes, payment-wire structures and request terms. Its documentation does not include storage, ledger or wallet SDKs.

Those components do not establish that Bitcoin payments or paid inference are operating in production. The public roadmap describes possible directions rather than guaranteed features and does not list Bitcoin payments as completed.

A live payment system would need pricing rules, payment verification and a way to assess whether a provider ran the requested model and returned a valid result. Lightning is intended for Bitcoin payments, but the economics of the proposed system would depend on how those requirements are handled.

No launch date, confirmed production transaction, payment volume, number of participating GPUs or pricing schedule has been disclosed. The available information therefore establishes development work, not an operating payment market for Mesh LLM.
