The Solana Foundation has outlined a migration plan for protecting Solana against future quantum threats while saying no cryptographic change is currently required because capable quantum computers remain years away.

The foundation published its quantum-readiness statement on April 27, 2026. It said users do not need to move funds immediately and described the current risk as distant.

Anza and Firedancer, developers of Solana validator clients, have independently studied post-quantum migration options and begun initial Falcon implementation work for possible post-quantum use. Falcon is a signature scheme designed to resist attacks from sufficiently capable quantum computers.

The foundation plans to continue evaluating Falcon and other alternatives. If the threat becomes credible, the roadmap calls for deploying a post-quantum signature system for new wallets before migrating existing wallets.

The foundation said the migration is expected to have no meaningful effect on network performance. It described the plan as a readiness and migration process rather than a completed replacement of Solana’s current signing system.

Blueshift’s Winternitz Vault has provided a quantum-resilience option on Solana for more than two years as of April 27, 2026. The foundation also summarized its position with the statement, “Quantum is still years away.”
