> The business-focused agent can use multiple AI models, connect to workplace systems and operate through its own Workspace account and email address.

Google is introducing a workplace-focused Gemini agent that can plan and execute tasks across business systems, expanding the artificial intelligence service beyond prompt-based conversations.

Google announced the agent Oct. 8 at a Google Cloud event. It can connect with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres and Snowflake, as well as Model Context Protocol servers inside or outside a company’s network.

Gemini will choose a model for each task by default. Users can select alternatives, starting with Anthropic’s Claude models, while Google plans to add open-source and other private models later.

The system can split assignments among subagents and display its work in a task inbox. Users can review its progress, code, loaded skills and delegated tasks as the agent works.

The agent will receive its own Google Workspace account, email address and organizational context. Employees can contact it by tagging it, sending an email, sharing files or adding it to group chats. Its actions will create an audit trail under the agent’s identity rather than an individual employee’s name.

“Objectives, not just instructions,” is how Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, described the type of work the agent can accept. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the business rollout is intended to address security, scale and performance challenges before a broader consumer release.

Nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise at work, and Gemini has more than 1 billion monthly active users. Early testers include On, Shopify and PayPal.

The agent will be accessible through iOS and Android devices, Windows and Mac computers, the command line, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow and Slack. Google is also adding multi-model orchestration, smart routing and real-time spend caps to help businesses manage enterprise AI costs.

The workplace rollout builds on [Google’s earlier development of a personal Gemini agent](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/26220>), but the initial focus is business use.
