The Trump administration is backing a public-private initiative exceeding $6 billion to accelerate scientific research with artificial intelligence and superintelligence systems.

The White House announced the program, called “Science: A New Golden Age,” at a summit on Oct. 8. The effort combines federal, industry, academic and philanthropic funding and is designed to provide advanced computing and AI tools for national research priorities.

The Genesis Mission Consortium has secured $2.4 billion in industry commitments. NVIDIA pledged $1 billion in computing capacity and tools, while OpenAI committed $200 million. AMD, Google, Anthropic and other technology companies also pledged funding or resources.

The consortium is expected to support more than 15 federal agencies. Separate commitments include $1 billion from Georgia for scientific computing and workforce training, as well as more than $100 million from the National Science Foundation and the Energy Department for automated laboratories and scientific instruments.

The broader initiative targets superintelligence, quantum computing, nuclear fusion and space exploration. NASA and the Energy Department plan to develop space nuclear-power systems, including a proposed Mars mission scheduled for launch in 2028.
