> The hardware wallet maker said unauthorized implants affected user devices. Distributor CryptoBilis has paused sales of the affected inventory.

Ledger confirmed Sunday that an unauthorized hardware implant attack affecting user devices may have caused more than $86 million in cryptocurrency losses.

The potential losses involve users whose Ledger devices contained unauthorized hardware implants, the company said. The figure could rise above $86 million as the incident is assessed.

CryptoBilis, a distributor of Ledger products, has suspended sales of inventory linked to the affected devices.

Ledger is a hardware wallet maker, and the incident centers on the security of its physical products rather than a cryptocurrency network or trading platform. The company’s confirmation came at 5:31 a.m. ET (09:31 UTC) on Sunday.
