Ledger is investigating a reported $91 million loss involving hundreds of cryptocurrency wallets tied to devices sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis, raising concerns about modified hardware wallets.

The drained funds were spread across Ethereum, TRON and Bitcoin. Alex Thorn estimated the total loss at $91 million, while on-chain analysis identified more than $86 million taken from affected wallets.

Ledger said all confirmed cases from the Oct. 9 incident involve devices sold through CryptoBilis. The company said its systems and direct sales channels were not affected.

One affected customer’s device contained an unauthorized hardware implant. Ledger has not said the implant caused every loss, and it described the number of affected devices as limited.

CryptoBilis has stopped selling hardware wallets. Ledger is contacting affected users and working with authorities while urging buyers not to initialize unused devices purchased through the reseller. Customers who already initialized one were told to move funds to a new seed on a device purchased directly from Ledger.

The investigation remains focused on the reseller-distributed devices and the scope of the wallet losses.
