Sui Foundation plans to put $30 million into DATA Network as the AI-training-data protocol transitions from its standalone chain to Sui.

The investment will make Sui Foundation DATA Network’s largest institutional holder. The DATA token (DATA) will migrate to Sui at a one-to-one ratio, with governance rights, holder economics, locked positions and vesting schedules carried over under terms at least equivalent to the current arrangement.

DATA Network will continue running while the transition is completed. A detailed timeline and tokenholder transition plan will be published before the upgrade, but no completion date was provided.

DATA Foundation applications will use Walrus as their primary storage system. The integration will link Trace, DATA’s registry for AI-training data, with encrypted reference copies of original files while preserving provenance and usage-rights records.

Since launching in June 2026, Trace has logged over 250 million contributions and averages more than 3 million receipts daily. DATA Foundation previously operated under the Story name before shifting its focus toward AI-training data.
