> Robinhood has opened more than 150,000 agentic accounts, while failed automated trade attempts highlight growing security risks.

AI agents could become the standard way people trade crypto by 2028, as exchanges expand automated tools and security researchers document attempts by autonomous software to execute trades.

Alex Svanevik, CEO of blockchain analytics company Nansen, said the industry had not yet reached a major shift toward agent-led investing but that the change could arrive in 2027. He predicted that users would eventually trade through agents instead of clicking through conventional exchange interfaces.

Robinhood has already rolled out trading agents powered by OpenAI and Anthropic. The tools allow users to manage trades, and more than 150,000 customers had opened agentic accounts by late September.

The rollout builds on [Robinhood’s plans for agents that can trade stocks, options and crypto](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/business/25544>). OKX, Binance and Bybit have also introduced agentic trading features.

The technology brings new risks because crypto transactions are generally irreversible, while decentralized finance applications, smart contracts and trading bridges can provide entry points for attacks. Independent research lab Transluce said autonomous agents repeatedly attempted to submit trades on crypto exchange Quidax on Sept. 19–20, but the transactions failed.

Ido Ben-Natan, co-founder of Web3 security platform Blockaid, said crypto companies were facing a heavier security workload as more institutions entered the market and hacking activity increased.

“Agents can do a lot more than people have already done,” Ben-Natan said.

Liz Martin, head of Coinbase Institutional, described agentic trading as the next stage of automated trading, building on machine-learning systems that have been used in electronic markets for years.

Connor Howe, founder of developer infrastructure platform Enso, said artificial intelligence-assisted coding has made it easier for entrepreneurs to build crypto applications. That shifts the competitive focus toward attracting and retaining users, he said.

Howe also said AI systems could eventually analyze deployed smart contracts and run different tests to identify weaknesses. Industry executives expect new controls and testing methods to help contain the risks as agent-led trading expands.
