> Global AI-related debt issuance more than doubled from 2025 by early September, while hyperscalers accounted for 47% of sterling corporate bond issuance in 2026.

AI-related debt issuance has surged as large technology companies finance data centers, computing capacity and related infrastructure, creating new risks for corporate credit markets.

Global AI-related debt issuance reached about $450 billion by early September, more than double the total for 2025. AI hyperscalers accounted for 47% of sterling corporate bond issuance in 2026 through early September.

Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and Oracle represented more than 15% of year-to-date U.S. investment-grade debt issuance as of early May. Debt-financed AI capital spending could reach about $4.1 trillion between 2026 and 2030.

The scale of borrowing has increased the role of technology companies in bond markets. Long-term debt used to finance AI infrastructure may remain outstanding if the underlying technology becomes obsolete before the debt matures.

Higher leverage and less transparent financing structures could amplify losses if expectations for AI investment weaken. Financial markets have so far absorbed the issuance, but weaker-than-expected productivity gains or lower AI valuations could affect corporate debt markets and broader financial stability.

The trend follows rising concern about technology companies competing with governments for investor capital. [Earlier TokenPost coverage examined how AI borrowing could pressure government bond markets](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/30774>).
