> Personal agents can search products, prepare checkouts and complete purchases under user-set permissions, while Shopify Catalog contains billions of products.

Shopify is expanding access to Shopify Catalog so personal AI agents and agentic shopping platforms can search products, prepare checkouts and complete approved purchases through Shop.

The connected tools include personal agents such as OpenClaw and Hermes, along with agentic shopping platforms such as Muse. They can search products, prepare checkout details, place approved orders, reorder items, track deliveries and review return policies.

By default, agents prepare checkouts for user review and approval. Shoppers can also authorize a personal agent to complete purchases without individual approval by setting weekly, monthly or total spending limits.

Shopify Catalog contains billions of products from Shopify merchants. The catalog is also open to products from brands whose online stores operate outside Shopify, giving connected agents a wider selection.

Shop may use a limited-use payment credential or virtual card to pay the merchant before charging the shopper’s selected payment method for the approved amount. Connecting an agent may share a shopper’s name, contact information, shipping and billing addresses, limited payment details, purchase-approval information and order data.

The expansion builds on Shopify’s Agentic Storefronts, which provide access to AI channels including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode and the Gemini app. Shopify’s Agentic plan allows brands that do not use Shopify for their online stores to list products in Shopify Catalog.

The company’s Universal Commerce Protocol, co-developed with Google, is designed to let AI agents interact with merchants across product discovery, checkout and other commerce functions. “Agentic commerce isn’t something we’re reacting to; it’s a vision we’re bringing to life at the very frontier of commerce and AI,” said Mani Fazeli, Shopify’s vice president of product.
