> The proposed commitment came before Meta knew whether its AI models would succeed. The company separately forecasts $130 billion to $145 billion in 2026 capital expenditures.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company was prepared to commit roughly $100 billion to $200 billion to artificial intelligence infrastructure before knowing whether its models would succeed, underscoring the scale of its long-term AI buildout.

Zuckerberg made the remarks Oct. 12, 2026. He described a point near the end of 2025 when Meta was prepared to make an unusually large infrastructure commitment before it had seen whether its AI systems would deliver the expected results.

“We’re going to write this check for like, I don’t know, like $100 billion or $200 billion,” Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg said Meta had been investing in data centers for years because the company must build computing capacity before it can determine whether its models will work commercially.

The comments add context to Meta’s separate 2026 capital-spending outlook. The company expects to spend $130 billion to $145 billion on capital expenditures this year, including data centers, other infrastructure and principal payments on finance leases. The forecast does not establish that Meta has already spent $100 billion to $200 billion specifically on AI infrastructure.

Meta has also announced energy agreements involving nuclear projects that could unlock up to 6.6 gigawatts for the electricity grids supporting its operations. The agreements cover projects including the Prometheus supercluster in New Albany, Ohio.

The spending involves long-lived assets such as data centers, computing equipment and power capacity. The performance of AI models and demand for their products can change more quickly, creating a gap between the life of the infrastructure and the commercial value it supports.

Meta’s [plans for up to $145 billion in 2026 spending](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/30474>) remain separate from Zuckerberg’s description of a potential $100 billion-to-$200 billion commitment. His remarks described the scale of a commitment Meta was prepared to make before its models had demonstrated that the strategy would work.
