NVIDIA plans to provide $250 million in computing access over five years for artificial intelligence safety and security research in the United Kingdom, extending its work across the country’s research and technology sectors.

The commitment provides $50 million in computing access each year. Most is intended for the wider UK research community, with some allocated to the British Open-Ended Learning and Discovery Lab at the University of Oxford, the Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab at University College London and Imperial College London.

NVIDIA has yet to settle which providers will deliver the computing, how the systems will be built or the commercial terms. The computing is planned through UK-based NVIDIA Cloud Partners, with infrastructure hosted in the country.

The pledge adds to up to £60 million in UK government support over six years for the Oxford and UCL labs, known as BOLD and SOFAIR, through UK Research and Innovation. That support also includes access to large-scale computing resources.

NVIDIA’s broader UK efforts involve health care providers, financial firms, local authorities and quantum computing company Riverlane. The initiatives range from active deployments to exploratory work.

The company’s 2025 UK plans also covered AI infrastructure, health care, finance, robotics and quantum computing. The new commitment extends that activity to AI safety and security research.
