Anthropic has made OpenTelemetry tracing available in public beta across Claude Managed Agents, the Messages API and Claude SDKs, giving developers a way to inspect agent activity alongside application logs and metrics.

Developers can set an export destination in the Claude Console. Traces can cover every agent turn, model call and tool use, as well as Messages API requests and Managed Agents sessions. They include latency, token counts and trace IDs.

The traces follow OpenTelemetry’s GenAI semantic conventions. Those conventions should allow data from Claude and other providers to appear in the same observability tools and dashboards. Supported platforms include Grafana Cloud, Honeycomb, Sentry and Splunk.

Tools including Arize AI, Braintrust, Datadog, Langfuse, LangSmith by LangChain, New Relic and PostHog can use production traces for evaluations. Databricks Unity Gateway can track organization-wide token usage and flag unusual activity.

The tracing feature also exposes tool use and calls to Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. Anthropic has not provided pricing, adoption figures or a timetable for general availability.

The release follows other Claude Platform updates this month. Managed Agents added dynamic workflows in beta on Oct. 9, and Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5 on Oct. 7 for high-volume and latency-sensitive work.
