> The 150,000-square-foot facility near Austin is expected to reach full production in two to three years as the startup develops power plants for data centers.

Ambrosia Energy has begun work on a battery factory near Austin, Texas, with planned annual capacity of 10 gigawatt-hours, supporting its effort to build power plants for data centers.

The factory will span 150,000 square feet and is expected to reach full production in two to three years. Co-founder and CEO Ben Longmier said its output could support about 300 megawatts of power-plant capacity annually.

Ambrosia plans to begin work later this year on its first commercial power plant in West Texas. The project is designed to combine 300 megawatts of solar panels with 660 megawatt-hours of batteries, supplying 30 megawatts of continuous power with a target uptime of 99.3%.

The company’s system uses solar panels to power a data center during daylight hours and charge batteries. Those batteries are intended to supply power at night and on cloudy days, keeping the facility running around the clock. Longmier has said Ambrosia aims to provide power at $100 per megawatt-hour.

Ambrosia’s pilot plant can generate 200 kilowatts continuously, and sections have operated for more than 100 days, Longmier said.

Longmier and co-founder Sara Spangelo previously founded Swarm, a satellite company later sold to SpaceX.
