# Meta Releases Open-Weight Muse Spark Open, Keeps Strongest AI Closed

Meta has released Muse Spark Open, an open-weight AI model for coding and agent tasks, while keeping its most capable system closed and giving developers another option.

The model targets programming and AI agent work. Meta did not open its most capable system with the release. Muse Wonder, introduced earlier this week, remains closed source.

Muse Spark Open is not Meta's strongest model. Meta also acknowledged that Chinese open-weight models still perform better in software development and some other tasks.

Meta is pairing the release with support for local use on Apple hardware. The companies have partnered to let developers run Muse Spark Open across multiple high-end Mac computers. Apple updated its MLX software toolkit to support the model on Mac devices.

That gives developers a local route to run Meta's new model on Mac computers, while the company's most capable technology remains unavailable as an open-weight release.
