> Its reach was almost twice Sonnet 5.5’s. The figures cover Vercel’s AI Gateway, not the full AI market.

TypeSafe AI’s Jev was used by 35% of paid teams on Vercel’s AI Gateway within two weeks of launch, giving it almost twice the reach of Sonnet 5.5, the next most popular model on the service.

The figure measures teams using the Gateway, a service that provides access to multiple AI models through one API. It does not capture all model use: major AI labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic also offer their own APIs, so activity outside Vercel’s service is not reflected in its figures.

Jev’s limited release began Sept. 15. In its first 24 hours, the model reached nearly 13% of paid Gateway teams, more than twice the first-day reach of any previous model launch on the platform. That early adoption preceded the broader two-week result. [Earlier coverage of Jev’s first-day reach](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/28430>) also examined OpenAI’s Decisions API, launched after Jev’s debut.

Jev is designed to choose from a small set of predetermined outputs. Limiting the possible answers allows it to run faster and at lower cost than alternatives such as Sonnet 5.5. Vercel used Jev to classify harmful commands, replacing GPT-6 Luna for that task. OpenAI and Amazon have introduced competing offerings.

The Gateway’s usage mix shows both open-source and frontier models gaining ground. Open-source models process more than 70% of the tokens handled by the service and account for nearly one-quarter of its spending. Spending on frontier labs has grown tenfold even as those labs represent a smaller portion of total spending, a pattern consistent with the two groups serving complementary uses.
