> Employed U.S. respondents put AI’s expected capacity for their current work at 28% on average; 5% thought it could handle at least 80% of their jobs.

Anthropic employees expect artificial intelligence to be capable of handling an average 75% of their current work by 2030, versus 28% among employed U.S. respondents, underscoring a sharp divide in workplace expectations.

The measure concerns what AI might be capable of doing during employees’ current work hours. The result reflects a forecast of AI’s potential role in employees’ work, not current usage or a company automation plan.

More than half of Anthropic employees expected AI to have the capacity to handle at least 80% of their current work by 2030. The comparable share of employed U.S. respondents was 5%.

Anthropic’s internal poll received 1,334 responses from employees between Aug. 9 and Aug. 12, 2026, and its results were unweighted. A separate online survey collected responses from 10,980 U.S. adults between Aug. 11 and Aug. 23. Its results were weighted to represent the adult population, while the comparison about respondents’ own work included only people who were employed.

The U.S. survey used an online opt-in panel that excluded adults without internet access. Demographic weighting may not account for every difference between the panel and the broader population. The 28% figure applies to employed respondents, while the comparison on AI’s scientific potential covers U.S. adults overall.

On that broader question, 91% of Anthropic employees and 39% of U.S. adults expected AI to be capable of making a Nobel-level discovery by 2030.

Respondents who expected AI to take on a larger share of their own work also anticipated higher unemployment. Among people with similar expectations for how much AI could affect their jobs, Anthropic employees and U.S. workers had similar unemployment expectations.

The employee poll also asked about Anthropic’s growth. Ninety-five percent of respondents expected the company’s headcount to increase over the following 12 months, and the median employee estimate was 66% growth. Those figures reflect employees’ expectations, not a company hiring plan.
