> The list spans 15 planned projects, 29 under construction and 25 ramping up, as AI demand supports power-chip markets.

China’s power-chip expansion is drawing attention as a potential source of long-term competition for Texas Instruments, though the projects span different stages and include more than complete new wafer fabs.

A list covers about 58 suppliers and 69 projects: 15 planned, 29 under construction and 25 ramping up capacity. Elon Musk reshared the list. Its projects cover silicon MOSFETs, IGBTs, power-management chips, and silicon carbide and gallium nitride devices.

Some entries describe upgrades or specialized production lines. A Huahong project, for example, is described as a BCD analog and power-management process upgrade within a mixed project. A Xinwei Taike entry covers a silicon carbide backside-processing line.

China’s domestic semiconductor-equipment advances could affect mature-process competition. Domestic suppliers are estimated to hold more than 50% of China’s cleaning and chemical mechanical planarization equipment market and nearly 50% of etching. Chinese suppliers remain well behind in lithography and coating/developing equipment. Geopolitical limits, customer equipment standards and less feedback from the advanced-process ecosystem also constrain their progress.

Current market conditions provide a counterpoint to the longer-term supply concern. AI demand supports power-management chips and other power semiconductors. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung have reduced or moved some 8-inch capacity, while other manufacturers have shifted production toward power-management and higher-margin AI-related products. Foundry price increases from the first to second quarter averaged about 5% to 15%, with the effects of the increases expected to extend into 2027.

Future oversupply is a longer-term possibility, while current conditions point to strong demand. Texas Instruments’ main businesses are analog chips and embedded processing, so any effect would depend on competition in specific products, customer purchasing and pricing power.
