> Weak wallet seeds exposed about 2.94 trillion QU. The network halt kept 87.1% of the drained tokens on Qubic.

Qubic halted its blockchain after an attacker exploited weak wallet seeds to drain 1,404 wallets of about 2.94 trillion QU, freezing transactions while it developed recovery options.

The unauthorized transfers occurred between 7:42 p.m. ET on Oct. 17 (11:42 p.m. UTC) and 9:26 p.m. ET (1:26 a.m. UTC on Oct. 18). Computors, the network operators that process transactions, stopped the chain at tick 85,371,949.

The halt left 87.1% of the drained QU on Qubic. The other 12.9% reached MEXC, a cryptocurrency exchange. QU is the accounting unit for Qubic (QUBIC).

The weakness affected seeds generated before Oct. 18 in iPhone or iPad browsers and in Safari on Mac computers. Seeds produced through Qubic's iOS app before July 2025 were affected as well. The flaw lay in wallet creation, not in the blockchain's transaction rules.

Qubic has updated its web wallet to generate new seeds using a cryptographically secure method. That change does not strengthen seeds made earlier. The core team is identifying affected wallets and preparing recovery options for a Computor vote.
