# Scaled Cognition Launches Voice API at $9 Per Million Characters

Scaled Cognition made Voice generally available Tuesday, giving businesses a text-to-speech model for customer-service calls that can connect to existing AI agents and phone systems.

Hosted API access costs $9 per million characters. Businesses that run Voice on their own infrastructure pay $1 per million characters for the self-hosted option and supply the computing resources themselves.

Voice can generate spoken responses for existing AI agents and work with interactive voice response systems. Businesses can also pair it with APT, Scaled Cognition’s model for customer-service conversations and actions. Voice produces speech from text; APT handles the conversation and actions when the models are used together.

The model is designed to use context when pronouncing abbreviations, dates, addresses and account numbers. It supports voice cloning and more than 25 languages.

Scaled Cognition lists 70 milliseconds between receiving text and beginning speech. That figure measures how quickly audio starts after text reaches Voice; it does not include the time an AI agent takes to interpret a caller’s request and prepare an answer.
