Celestia has activated Fibre, a data-publishing protocol that lets rollups send data to validator-operated servers, opening a direct route for publishing blobs on the network.

The protocol uses erasure coding on each blob, producing encoded pieces that readers can use to recover the full data from only a subset. Clients upload blob data in pieces to Fibre servers and can retrieve it from those servers, avoiding the conventional relay path.

Celestia’s consensus layer records payment information and blob commitments, while the payload moves between clients and Fibre servers. The design keeps the data itself off the consensus layer. In an end-to-end benchmark involving 120 validators, Fibre reached throughput of 3.07 terabits per second.

Each Fibre server’s storage budget depends on the stake of its associated validator. Beginning with application version 10, each validator bound to Fibre is expected to run a server. The protocol offers rollups built on Celestia another way to publish data.
