> Project Helix is designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Microsoft plans to begin shipping alpha hardware to developers in 2027.

Microsoft is aiming to bring a new Xbox handheld to consumers by the 2027 holiday season and its Project Helix console by the 2028 holidays, setting targets for its next hardware releases.

The consumer targets are plans, not confirmed launch dates. They place the handheld ahead of the console without establishing how much time would separate their releases.

Project Helix is Microsoft's next Xbox console. It is designed to play Xbox console and PC games and will use a custom chip developed with AMD. Microsoft's confirmed developer timeline applies to Project Helix, not the planned handheld.

The new handheld would follow the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, which Microsoft developed with ASUS and AMD. Those devices run Windows and give players access to Xbox games and PC game storefronts.

Microsoft plans to begin shipping alpha versions of Project Helix hardware to game developers in 2027.
