> The upgrade would shorten target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 and make Sprout balances left at activation unspendable under the new rules.

The proposed NU7 upgrade to the Zcash (ZEC) network has a mainnet activation height of 3,543,405, giving the rollout a block-based milestone ahead of a Nov. 5 target. The height change was merged into the deployment proposal on Oct. 21, and the proposal remains marked proposed. Nov. 5 is a target date, with no activation time specified.

NU7 would reduce the target interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25. It is designed to shorten the average wait for an initial confirmation to 25 seconds, though actual block counts can vary from the target pace.

The faster interval would not triple every measure of network capacity. NU7 also sets shielded-action limits across the network and individual pools, which constrain how much shielded activity can be included. Daily mined ZEC issuance would remain on the same schedule, while the reward assigned to each block would be adjusted for the more frequent blocks.

The proposal would also direct 60% of transaction fees from each block out of circulation, with miners receiving the remainder. The accumulated balance is scheduled to return through later block subsidies beginning at mainnet height 8,939,664.

NU7 would disallow version 4 transactions, the only format that can transfer funds out of Zcash’s older Sprout pool. Balances left in Sprout when the upgrade activates would be unspendable under the new rules, but would not be erased from issued supply. Holders would need to move those funds before activation to keep them spendable under the existing rules.

NU7 reached its testnet activation height of 4,465,026 on Oct. 6. Node software remains on the mainnet upgrade path: Zebra 7.0.0-rc.0 can run NU7 on testnet, while a stable Zebra 7.0.0 release was still forthcoming as of Oct. 21. Zebra 6.4.x is set to stop around Nov. 2, ahead of the Nov. 5 target for mainnet.
