> The snapshot targets Bitcoin block 973,728 around Oct. 31, with one ECX planned for each BTC at the cutoff. The date is an estimate because the trigger is a block height.

An upcoming eCash (ECX) fork plans to create balances for Bitcoin (BTC) holders at a block-height snapshot, while exchange policies will determine whether customers can access those tokens after the network launches.

The target is Bitcoin block height 973,728, estimated around Oct. 31, 2026. Because the cutoff follows a block rather than a fixed calendar time, the date can shift. The allocation is one ECX for each BTC held at the snapshot, but matching unit counts do not establish equal market value or guarantee that ECX will trade.

The planned network is separate from Bitcoin and is designed to activate Drivechains through BIP-300 and BIP-301. The snapshot is intended to leave BTC balances unchanged while creating corresponding balances on the separate chain. ECX is distinct from the existing eCash asset, which uses the ticker XEC.

Exchange policies vary. CoinW plans to credit eligible BTC balances held in customer accounts at the snapshot at a 1:1 ratio. It has not committed to ECX trading, deposits or withdrawals; those services would be addressed separately if planned. bitFlyer does not plan to list or credit ECX or provide a cash equivalent. Coincheck had no plan on Oct. 9 to handle ECX or credit it to customers.

No advance claim or registration is required. For BTC held with an exchange or custodian, access to ECX depends on that provider’s policy. For self-custodied BTC, access depends on control of the keys and compatible wallet software.

Replay protection is opt-in. After the fork, a BTC transaction could also be valid on ECX and move the ECX balance to the BTC recipient. Users should not send BTC or disclose a recovery phrase to claim ECX.
