> He said the industry is currently more concerned about excess data-service supply than chip oversupply, while describing the energy response in 2026 and 2027 as strong.

Jeremie Ontiveros, SemiAnalysis' data center and energy research lead, warned that the sector could face excess data-center capacity by 2028 as electricity remains harder to secure than GPUs.

Ontiveros said the market already shows some chip oversupply, but GPUs are easier to obtain than power for data centers. He described the market's energy response in 2026 and 2027 as strong.

Separately, he said excess data-service supply is currently a greater industry concern than chip oversupply. He also cautioned that supply-chain risks could reverse by 2028, creating a risk of data-center oversupply.

Ontiveros identified the pace of chip supply-chain expansion as an indicator to watch. He characterized that expansion as a positive signal for capital spending, including investment in new semiconductor fabs and equipment.
