# ERC-8004 Draft Proposes Registries for AI Agent Identity and Reputation

ERC-8004, a draft proposal for Ethereum, would establish on-chain registries for AI agents’ identity, reputation and validation. The registries are intended to support agent discovery and trust signals.

The proposed registries cannot guarantee that an agent’s advertised capabilities work or are safe. Payments are outside the proposal’s scope.

Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin wrote in a July 30, 2025, essay, “Ethereum will serve as critical infrastructure for AI agents.”

Agent tools remain early and experimental. Separately, x402 enables payments on Ethereum and Layer 2 networks.
