> More than 2,000 native post-quantum accounts have signed transactions on mainnet, while consensus components still rely on classical cryptography.

Algorand has added a rekeying option that lets existing accounts switch transaction authorization to Falcon-1024 without changing addresses or moving assets, extending post-quantum signing to accounts already in use.

Rekeying changes how an account authorizes transactions while keeping its on-chain address. Users can adopt the signing option without transferring assets to a replacement account.

Native Falcon-1024 accounts went live on mainnet in August 2026. The new option extends that account-level signing method to accounts already in use. Falcon-1024 is the only post-quantum scheme enabled for this account feature, which is supported through SDKs, AlgoKit and Pera Wallet.

More than 2,000 native post-quantum accounts have now signed transactions on mainnet. That account figure measures a different kind of activity from Algorand’s Oct. 17 milestone: the network had processed more than 2.7 million transactions signed with post-quantum technology, as detailed in [its earlier transaction update](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/34563>).

Account-level signing does not cover every network component. Algorand’s verifiable random function still relies on elliptic-curve cryptography, while consensus signing still uses Ed25519. The network targets broader quantum resilience by the end of 2027.

State Proofs use Falcon signatures to attest to ledger state at 256-round intervals. The proof system dates to 2022 and serves a ledger-verification role distinct from account transaction signing.
