> Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 followed by Oct. 7 with lower prices than Opus, but the platform data does not identify what drove the increase.

Token volume for Anthropic models routed through OpenRouter was up 3.6x on a seven-day average since Claude Opus 5.5 launched Sept. 22, a rise that coincided with two later releases and lower-priced model options.

Peter Walker, OpenRouter’s head of insights, described the metric in an Oct. 25 post: “New from OpenRouter: 7-day average token volume for Anthropic models is up 3.6x since the launch of Opus 5.5.” The chart’s daily series extends through Oct. 24.

OpenRouter groups prompt and completion tokens routed through its API into daily UTC buckets. Its rankings exclude requests that users or apps keep private and do not measure user counts or spending. The 3.6x change therefore describes token activity on OpenRouter, rather than Anthropic’s total usage, customer base or revenue.

The release sequence started with Opus on Sept. 22. Claude Sonnet 5.5 followed on Sept. 28, six days later, and Claude Haiku 5.5 launched Oct. 7, nine days after Sonnet. Each added another price point to the lineup.

Opus costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Sonnet costs $2 and $10, respectively. Haiku costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens; for longer prompts, those rates rise to $0.50 and $2.50. At the lower tier, Haiku’s input and output rates are each one-twentieth of Sonnet’s. The listed rates are per million tokens, rather than an estimate of what OpenRouter users spent.

The lower price points and model availability coincided with higher volume, but the chart does not isolate their impact. It also does not show whether model quality or changes in developers’ workloads contributed to the increase.

The broader model mix on OpenRouter also showed substantial token use outside the most advanced models: non-frontier models accounted for 84% of volume in the week of Aug. 10, as detailed in [an earlier analysis of OpenRouter’s model mix](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/31429>). That figure covers a platform-wide weekly mix, while the 3.6x comparison tracks Anthropic model volume since Opus 5.5 launched.
