Discord plans to make eligible posts from some large public servers searchable on Google and other search engines, extending the reach of crypto discussions while giving members and administrators sharing controls.

Discoverable Servers are public communities listed in Discord’s directory with at least 1,000 members.

Starting Nov. 16, each Discoverable Server will have a web page that may include summaries of public-channel discussions. Some eligible messages may begin appearing in web searches in mid-December, with the rollout happening gradually.

Many crypto projects use Discord for technical discussions, user support and announcements. The change is intended to make useful answers in public crypto channels easier to find through web search.

Messages posted before the individual-message rollout will not be included, and usernames and avatars will not appear alongside published messages. Users can turn off message sharing in User Settings under Data & Privacy. It is off by default in Australia, the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil and South Korea. Teen users are excluded.

Server administrators can choose which channels appear online or disable message sharing across their server. Members can change their setting after launch, but that applies only to future messages. To remove a message that is already public, users must delete it on Discord; search engines may retain cached copies for a time. The first server pages are scheduled to appear Nov. 16.
