> The deployment includes VIAT across both mainnets, while developers can configure separate token transfers and data-only messages.

Contracts on Stellar and Ethereum can now exchange messages through a VIA Labs integration that links Soroban, Stellar’s smart-contract platform, with Ethereum. The route operates in both directions on mainnet. The deployment also includes versions on Stellar testnet and Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet, with VIAT serving as its reference token.

VIAT transfers use a burn-and-mint process: tokens are removed on the sending chain, then minted on the receiving chain after the message arrives. The design keeps the total VIAT supply across chains constant, and the destination gateway rejects replayed messages. VIAT transfers are estimated to take about one to three minutes, depending on validator polling and message delivery.

VIA operates the validators and relayers in the messaging path. Validators sign messages from the source gateway, and a VIA-operated relayer delivers them to the destination gateway. After checking the signatures, that gateway calls the receiving contract.

Developers can build transfers for other tokens or send custom messages carrying data without tokens. Each flow requires its own contract integration with VIA. The deployment’s Soroban contracts are identified as VG1 contracts audited by Hashlock.

The route provides general contract messaging, while USDT0 went live on Stellar on Sept. 2 through LayerZero’s OFT standard as a specific stablecoin liquidity connection. Stellar network fees remain payable in Stellar Lumens (XLM). VIA’s protocol fee is waived on Stellar routes during the launch period.
