Stellar is positioning its blockchain as infrastructure for digital currency exchange. In an Oct. 28 update, the network put its onchain trading volume for the second quarter of 2026 at $2.78 billion.

Stellar presented the figure alongside a currency exchange service aimed at fintech companies, market makers and liquidity providers. The network lists 17 stablecoins and nine or more fiat currencies as supported assets. That count does not mean every currency can be exchanged for every other one.

The service uses path payments, which let a sender fund a transfer in one currency while the recipient receives another in the same transaction. A payment can route through an order book or automated market maker pools, depending on which offers the better rate. If a step in the route fails, the transaction does not complete.

Stellar describes the exchange model as available around the clock, with settlement in seconds. Currency support alone does not ensure that liquidity is available for each trading pair. Access to fiat currencies also depends on participating providers and the compliance rules they apply.

The update also pointed to other financial activity on the network. Circle issues USDC and EURC on Stellar, while Wirex settles card spending in those stablecoins. Franklin Templeton’s BENJI fund had $605 million on Stellar as of Oct. 6, 2026, and has used the network’s controls since 2021.

Stellar Lumens (XLM) is the network’s native asset, distinct from the issuer-backed currencies and tokens discussed in its currency services. The update also described network-level freeze and clawback controls and the ability to carry Travel Rule information for institutional use.
