> The company identified information tied to 6,444 customers and said its trading services and asset database were unaffected.

South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb has opened a compensation process after it disclosed unauthorized access to an internal office system that affected information tied to 6,444 customers.

Bithumb said the unauthorized access to DaouOffice, its internal mobile collaboration system, lasted about an hour on Oct. 27. Information involved included names, phone numbers, national ID and driver’s license numbers, bank account numbers and copies of identity documents.

Of the 6,444 customer records involved, 5,600 were encrypted and could not be directly viewed; information tied to the remaining 844 customers was confirmed exposed. The incident also involved information on 715 employees and employees of partner companies.

Bithumb apologized and committed to reimburse all economic losses confirmed to be linked to the incident. It said DaouOffice is physically separated from the exchange’s core trading architecture and asset database, and those systems were not affected. The company said customer trading services and underlying asset data were unaffected.
