> Trump said he did not know whether North Korea was behind the attack. Binance put the token losses at about $6.3 billion.

President Donald Trump said Friday he had “always felt it was a little bit dangerous” to move money digitally, and said he did not know whether North Korea was behind Binance’s $6.3 billion hack.

Asked at the White House about North Korean responsibility, Trump said, “We don’t know. We’re looking at that.” He also said Binance had told him it would cover customer losses and had the situation largely under control.

Binance said an attack on its hot wallet caused about $6.3 billion in token losses. The exchange placed the attack at 4:05 p.m. ET Oct. 29. Binance said it had set aside more than $6.34 billion to cover the losses, with more than $5 billion in corresponding tokens already in place.

A hot wallet is an internet-connected wallet exchanges use to process customer withdrawals. Binance said investigators found additional intrusion points and no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked. Its investigation was continuing.
