> The protocol also supports transfers that pair tokens with instructions. Its adoption figures measure different things and should not be read as completed transfer volume.

Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) moves messages and digital assets between blockchains, giving asset issuers and developers a way to send information alongside token transfers.

The protocol supports messages, token transfers and programmable transfers that pair tokens with instructions. Those are distinct capabilities: a message can carry information across networks, while a token transfer moves a digital asset. A programmable transfer combines the two.

More than [$15 billion in token value migrated to CCIP](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/38092>) in 2026 as issuers and protocols replaced legacy cross-chain providers. That migration figure measures the value of tokens moved onto CCIP.

A separate figure exceeded $85 billion in the third quarter of 2026. It measures the fully diluted value of cross-chain tokens integrated with CCIP, not the value of completed transfers. Neither figure, on its own, establishes demand for Chainlink (LINK).

Chainlink released [CCIP 2.0 with optional Cross-Chain Verifiers](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/25197>) on Sept. 28. Institutions, asset issuers and other third parties can operate the additional verifiers alongside Chainlink’s default verification system. The verifiers add a cryptographic check before a cross-chain transaction executes. The upgrade also introduced configurable transfer controls.
