Binance said attackers compromised several employees’ devices and reached its internal wallet-signing service in an Oct. 29 incident involving about $6.34 billion in digital assets; the exchange said it would bear the losses.

The exchange said about $2.85 billion had been frozen or intercepted and that it had replenished 98% of affected token assets by Oct. 31.

Binance’s initial findings described attackers using fake recruiting interviews, a tampered Homebrew installation package and an internal AI tool to compromise multiple employees’ computers. They then gained access to the internal wallet-signing service and used Ethereum’s EIP-7702 authorization mechanism to move XRP, Solana (SOL), Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) from hot wallets.

The $6.34 billion figure describes assets involved, not a stated net loss; Binance provided no net-loss total. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has attributed responsibility for the attack to North Korea. Binance said it rebuilt affected systems and plans to hire an independent third party to review them.
