Metaplanet Surpasses 5,000 BTC Milestone Amid Aggressive Bitcoin Strategy

Japanese hotel operator Metaplanet (TSE: 3350) has reached a significant milestone in its Bitcoin (BTC) treasury strategy, now holding 5,000 BTC—valued at roughly $428.1 million. The Tokyo-listed firm continues to position Bitcoin as its core reserve asset, acquiring BTC at an average cost of $85,621 per coin.

In its latest move, Metaplanet added 145 BTC to its treasury at an average price of approximately $93,327 per coin, investing about $13.6 million. This strategic accumulation is part of the company’s ongoing initiative to leverage Bitcoin’s long-term value potential as a treasury reserve asset.

Despite short-term market fluctuations—shares were trading 5% lower at the time of reporting—Metaplanet's Bitcoin strategy has yielded impressive results in 2025. The company reports a year-to-date BTC Yield of 121.1%, a proprietary performance metric designed to isolate gains from its BTC acquisition while factoring out dilution from new equity issuance. In Q1 2025 alone, BTC Yield stood at 95.6%.

This performance metric showcases the effectiveness of Metaplanet’s Bitcoin-first treasury model, positioning the company as a leading example of corporate BTC adoption in Asia. The aggressive strategy mirrors similar moves by major U.S. firms but highlights growing interest in crypto-backed financial strategies within Japan’s publicly listed companies.
