Polymarket Set to Relaunch in the U.S. with Sports-Focused Prediction Markets

Polymarket, the crypto-based prediction market that gained massive attention last year, is gearing up for a U.S. relaunch as early as November, according to a Bloomberg report. The platform plans to reopen with limited access, prioritizing sports-related prediction markets in its initial rollout.

The New York-based company halted operations for U.S. users in 2022 following a $1.4 million settlement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for operating an unregistered derivatives trading platform. As part of the settlement, Polymarket agreed to restrict access for U.S. residents.

Since then, the platform has continued to grow internationally, allowing users outside the U.S. to trade on blockchain-powered markets covering topics from elections to celebrity trials. Despite the restrictions, some U.S. users continued participating via VPNs.

Polymarket’s path back into the American market became clearer earlier this year after acquiring QCX, a company holding both exchange and clearinghouse licenses from the CFTC. This strategic move enables Polymarket to legally operate under U.S. regulations — a major milestone following the conclusion of investigations by the CFTC and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Unlike centralized prediction platforms such as Kalshi or Truth Social’s upcoming venture, Polymarket is fully decentralized, running entirely on blockchain technology and relying on cryptocurrencies, primarily stablecoins, for trading. The company is also developing a native token designed to align the platform’s growth with the broader crypto ecosystem, though details about its structure and regulatory framework remain undisclosed.

With its innovative blockchain infrastructure and renewed regulatory compliance, Polymarket’s U.S. comeback could reshape the prediction market landscape — bridging traditional finance with crypto-native trading for a new generation of users.
