The CLARITY Act’s defeat in the Senate delays clearer U.S. rules for digital assets and deepens a partisan dispute over how cryptocurrency should be regulated.

Sen. Tim Scott accused Democrats of placing political considerations ahead of public policy. He said lawmakers were more focused on political conflict involving former President Donald Trump than on advancing a regulatory framework he considers beneficial to Americans.

Scott said the failed legislation means regulatory clarity for cryptocurrencies and other digital assets will remain delayed. He also criticized the legislative process as excessively politicized.

The bill’s rejection leaves the broader U.S. digital-asset policy debate unresolved, with disagreements over the direction of regulation continuing to divide lawmakers.
