Steak n’ Shake’s recent move to accept Bitcoin has already proven a success just two weeks in, according to COO Dan Edwards. Speaking at Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas, Edwards revealed that the American fast-food chain has significantly cut transaction costs while appealing to a growing crypto-savvy customer base.

“Bitcoin transactions are faster and about 50% cheaper in processing fees than credit card payments,” said Edwards. “It’s a win for our customers, our business, and the broader Bitcoin community.”

Since launching Bitcoin payments on May 16, Steak n’ Shake has made a noticeable impact. Edwards stated that on launch day alone, one in every 500 global Bitcoin transactions occurred at a Steak n’ Shake location.

The company’s decision to support Bitcoin is part of its broader strategy to meet customers where they are, providing flexible payment options alongside cash and credit cards. “This puts Bitcoin on equal footing with globally recognized payment methods,” Edwards added.

In a bold move, the chain now also accepts Bitcoin for franchise purchases, opening new opportunities for crypto investors and entrepreneurs.

Building on the momentum, Steak n’ Shake is exploring further tech-driven initiatives, including integrating robo-taxis, drone delivery, and AI-powered “cyber-chefs.” These innovations aim to modernize the dining experience while reinforcing the brand’s commitment to digital transformation.
