Gemini Expands Into Australia With AUSTRAC Registration and New Leadership

Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, has officially expanded its operations into Australia after securing registration with AUSTRAC, the nation’s financial intelligence and anti-money laundering regulator. The move marks a significant milestone in Gemini’s Asia-Pacific (APAC) growth strategy, reinforcing its commitment to global compliance and transparency.

The exchange’s Australian subsidiary, Gemini Intergalactic Australia Pty Ltd, is now formally registered as a digital currency provider under AUSTRAC. This registration is a mandatory step for any exchange offering crypto trading services in Australia, ensuring adherence to strict anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws.

Gemini, ranked among the top 20 global crypto exchanges by trading volume, has recorded more than $126 million in transactions in the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. With its Australian launch, local investors can now seamlessly trade digital assets using the Australian dollar (AUD), one of the G-10 currencies.

According to Gemini’s Global State of Crypto Report 2025, Australia’s crypto adoption rate has reached 22%, matching that of the United States and positioning the country as one of the world’s fastest-growing digital asset markets.

Saad Ahmed, Gemini’s Head of APAC, stated that the company is “doubling down on our Asia-Pacific growth strategy” to meet the region’s surging demand for regulated digital asset services.

To lead its Australian operations, Gemini has appointed James Logan as Head of Australia. Logan, who previously served as Country Manager for Luno and held a senior role at Bitget, brings extensive experience in crypto and fintech.

Ahmed emphasized that Logan’s appointment underscores Gemini’s mission to foster a safe, transparent, and compliant crypto ecosystem for both retail and institutional investors in Australia.
