Bank Leumi, Israel’s largest bank, is preparing to launch cryptocurrency trading services in early 2027, becoming the first Israeli bank to announce plans to provide customers with direct access to digital asset trading.
The new service will allow customers of Bank Leumi and its mobile banking platform, Pepper, to buy, sell and hold Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL). Crypto trading will be integrated directly into the Leumi Trade app, giving customers access to digital assets alongside the bank’s existing capital markets services.
Bank Leumi is partnering with digital asset financial services company Galaxy Digital (GLXY) to power the offering. Galaxy will provide cryptocurrency trading and related services through GalaxyOne Institutional, its platform designed for banks, asset managers and other institutional clients.
Leumi has also reached an agreement to use Galaxy’s digital asset custody infrastructure, previously known as GK8. The custody technology will help securely support customers’ cryptocurrency holdings as part of the bank’s planned service.
The partnership marks Galaxy Digital’s entry into a significant banking relationship in Israel while positioning Bank Leumi among a growing number of traditional financial institutions integrating crypto services into their existing platforms. Rather than requiring customers to transfer funds to standalone cryptocurrency exchanges, Leumi aims to offer digital asset trading through a familiar, regulated banking environment.
Maya Ravia, Bank Leumi’s head of strategy, said digital assets are becoming an increasingly important component of the global financial system. Galaxy Israel CEO Lior Lamesh similarly highlighted the role early-moving banks could play as financial infrastructure becomes more open and programmable.
The planned Bank Leumi crypto trading service reflects the broader convergence between traditional banking and the cryptocurrency market as regulated financial institutions seek to meet growing demand for digital assets.
Neither Bank Leumi nor Galaxy Digital disclosed the financial terms of their partnership. Details regarding trading fees, account requirements and customer eligibility have also not yet been announced ahead of the planned 2027 launch.
