Charles Schwab is expanding its cryptocurrency services with plans to add Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX) and Chainlink (LINK) trading to its Schwab Crypto platform in the coming months. The move will broaden the financial giant’s digital asset lineup beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The company announced the expansion on August 27, saying the three cryptocurrencies were selected as part of its strategy to offer established digital assets that align with client demand. Schwab clients will be able to buy and sell SOL, AVAX and LINK directly through their crypto accounts once trading goes live.
“With this expansion, clients will have more choices to build a digital asset allocation alongside the investing and banking experience they know and trust at Schwab,” said Joe Vietri, Head of Digital Assets at Charles Schwab.
Schwab launched direct cryptocurrency trading earlier this year with Bitcoin and Ethereum. The brokerage charges 75 basis points based on the dollar value of each transaction. It also provides cryptocurrency research, educational resources and market insights through the Schwab Center for Financial Research and Schwab Coaching.
The announcement drew attention from the crypto community because other prominent assets, including XRP, HYPE and Zcash, were not included in the latest expansion. However, Charles Schwab indicated that additional cryptocurrencies could be introduced to Schwab Crypto over time.
The news coincided with gains across the three selected tokens. Solana climbed more than 9% over 24 hours to around $104.84, after trading between $95.23 and $105.55. SOL trading volume also surged nearly 70%.
Avalanche gained almost 2% within an hour following the announcement, while Chainlink rose more than 2% during the same period and extended its 24-hour gain to above 5%.
Schwab’s crypto expansion reflects its broader push into digital assets. The financial services company is also partnering with Cboe on prediction markets linked to S&P 500 performance and is reportedly exploring an options offering. The initiatives could further strengthen Schwab’s position as traditional Wall Street firms expand access to cryptocurrency and blockchain-based markets.
