Coinbase has filed to list more than 50 single-stock perpetual futures in the United States, expanding its derivatives business beyond cryptocurrencies and into traditional equities.

The crypto exchange announced the filing on September 18, saying the proposed contracts would provide exposure to some of the largest U.S. companies, including Nvidia, Microsoft and Tesla. Subject to regulatory clearance, Coinbase says the offering would become the first U.S. single-stock perpetual futures product.

Unlike conventional futures contracts, which have predetermined expiration dates, perpetual futures can remain open indefinitely as long as traders maintain required margin levels. Coinbase plans to offer the stock perpetuals on its regulated U.S. exchange with 24/5 trading access.

“Crypto was first, now it’s time for stocks,” Coinbase said in announcing the filing, highlighting its push to bring a trading model popular in cryptocurrency markets to traditional stocks.

Perpetual futures typically rely on recurring funding payments to keep contract prices aligned with the value of their underlying assets. They can also allow traders to use leverage, potentially increasing both returns and losses.

Coinbase already provides perpetual futures tied to cryptocurrencies in the U.S. market. Approval of the latest filing would extend its derivatives infrastructure to individual stocks and give traders another way to gain leveraged exposure to major American companies.

The move follows Coinbase’s broader expansion into traditional financial markets. Outside the United States, the company has begun rolling out 24/5 trading for nearly 4,000 U.S. stocks to eligible customers in the United Kingdom.

Coinbase is also increasing its focus on tokenized real-world assets. The company recently received Financial Services Permission from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market and plans to establish Abu Dhabi as an international hub for tokenization services outside the U.S.

The proposed Coinbase stock perpetual futures represent another step in the exchange’s effort to bridge crypto and traditional finance. However, the contracts must complete the required regulatory process before they can become available to U.S. traders.
