BitMEX Ends Trading, Leaves Users Five Days Before API Cutoff
The exchange halted trading, deposits and new positions at midnight ET Wednesday, while withdrawals remain open through its website.

BitMEX ended trading at midnight ET Wednesday (04:00 UTC), closing its exchange services while leaving users access to their accounts and website withdrawals.
Trading, deposits and new positions are no longer available. Fully KYC-verified accounts that retain balances face a monthly charge equal to 1% annually or $50, whichever is greater. The fee is deducted from existing funds and does not create a debt after an account reaches zero.
BitMEX urged users to withdraw their available balances. API withdrawals will be disabled at midnight ET Sept. 28 (04:00 UTC), after which users must complete withdrawals manually through the website.
“Your funds remain safe,” BitMEX said in its closure notice. The exchange launched in 2014 and became known for popularizing perpetual swaps, futures-style contracts without expiration, with leverage of up to 100x.
