Bybit Broadens Platform as Pure Crypto Exchange Model Fades
The exchange’s “Make Your Move” campaign highlights access to stocks, gold, forex and indexes alongside digital assets.

Bybit is broadening its financial-services pitch as customers seek stocks, gold, foreign exchange and payments alongside digital assets, signaling a shift away from single-purpose crypto exchanges.
Bybit co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou outlined the strategy as the exchange launched its “Make Your Move” campaign. The initiative positions Bybit as a broader financial platform rather than an exchange focused only on cryptocurrency trading.
The company already offers derivatives tied to stocks, gold, indexes and foreign exchange. These products give users exposure to changes in asset prices without ownership of the underlying assets.
The repositioning comes as several established crypto exchanges wind down. BitMEX ended trading Wednesday after 11 years. CoinEx announced plans to wind down this month amid falling trading volumes and rising compliance costs.
BitMart, which disclosed closure plans in July, is considering a restructuring that may revive part of its business. The developments highlight pressure on exchanges built around a narrower range of crypto trading services.
Bybit’s campaign also reflects a broader expansion among major digital-asset platforms. Coinbase is also moving beyond digital-asset trading, using its “Everything Exchange” strategy to introduce equities and prediction markets.
The shift puts exchanges in competition across more areas of financial activity, including market access, trading products and payment-related services. For Bybit, the campaign marks an effort to connect those offerings within one platform as the definition of a crypto exchange continues to expand.
