BIX plans to expand its crypto-enabled Visa card from 29 U.S. states to 49 within six to eight months, giving eligible residents access to stablecoin spending through a self-custody wallet.

The timetable depends on applicable approvals and partner readiness, so the expansion target is not guaranteed. The card currently supports eligible residents in 29 states.

Users can spend USDC and USDT held in a self-custody wallet, while Visa settles purchases with merchants in fiat. Supported network combinations include Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Solana and Optimism.

The card is non-custodial and backed by USDT and USDC collateral. Standard membership is free. The virtual Visa card costs $9.99, and eligible foreign-currency purchases carry a 1% foreign-exchange fee.

“The other states will open, and in the meantime we will grow,” said David Imonitie, BIX’s head of U.S. sales.

BIX also is developing physical cards and virtual accounts that would connect stablecoin balances to ACH, SEPA and SWIFT. The planned products would extend the card’s stablecoin payment model to bank-transfer networks and additional account services.
