MongoDB CEO Leaves for Meta as Shares Plunge 15% Premarket

MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai resigned Monday to take an executive role at Meta Platforms, sending the database company’s shares down 15% in premarket trading.
Desai’s departure took effect immediately. MongoDB’s board reappointed Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO while it searches for a permanent successor.
Ittycheria previously held MongoDB’s top leadership roles from 2014 through 2025. Board Chairman Tom Killalea said Ittycheria was the “best person” to lead the company on an interim basis and help ensure a smooth transition.
