QatarEnergy Extends LNG Force Majeure for Five More Italy Cargoes
The extension brings Edison’s affected deliveries to 29 cargoes, totaling about 3.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
QatarEnergy has extended force majeure on liquefied natural gas deliveries to Italy through early November, withholding five additional cargoes as shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz continue.
The extension brings the total number of Edison cargoes affected by the disruption to 29, covering about 3.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Edison is an Italian utility that receives Qatari LNG at the Adriatic LNG terminal.
Edison has replaced 21 of the affected cargoes, totaling about 2 billion cubic meters, and has said it can continue meeting its commercial commitments to customers. Its long-term QatarEnergy contract covers 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas annually for Italy over 25 years.
Qatar’s LNG exports rely heavily on tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, making the route disruption a direct constraint on deliveries to European and Asian buyers.
